Irish Blacks were founded by Mr. Maurice Boney of Johnstown, Colorado. The breed's genetics derive primarily from European Beef Fresian. After extensive genetic testing on the foundation blood of the breed, the herd was totally closed to any outside blood. Development continued for nearly a half century with foresightful genetic selection. Through genetic selection and close line breeding the Irish Black blood became pure and powerful. That 99.99% pure blood of an Irish Black translates to genetic dominance.
Irish Black genetic dominace is accomplished by "HOMOZYGOUS" genes. Homozygous means; corresponding genes make a trait 100% dominant in any mating. Irish Blacks are homozygous, or 100% genetically dominant. By using homozygous traits to breed cattle, those specific homozygous traits will always pass on to the next generation of calves. Selecting and using an Irish Black Bull means all of the top quality breed traits of that bull will pass to his resulting calves. This gives producers the power to improve quality and attain remarkable consistancy in their calves by simply using an Irish Black Bull.
Irish Black genetics are the result of a real world selection process targeting top US beef industry traits. During their development the Irish Black breed has been carefully and deliberately engineered by dedicated lifelong cattlemen to meet the needs of commercial producers.
